We’ll also feature quotes, interesting facts and video clips of their footballing skills and biggest triumphs.

The Original ‘GOAT’ (Greatest of all Time)

It might surprise you to know that the battle between Messi and Ronaldo supporters over the title ‘GOAT’ is not a new phenomenon. Fans have disagreed over which player should be considered the GOAT since the first football games took place in England over a century ago. In the 1920s and 30s, fans argued over Dixie Dean and Billy Meridith. In the 1950’s it was Stanley Matthews and Nat Lofthouse. By the 1960s these arguments had taken on a continental flavour, fans clashed over the talents of George Best and Eusébio.

Modern Football Era

Since the 1960s, European football fans have been blessed with an abundance of talented to watch. From the Dutch masters of the 1970s to the talents of Xavi, Iniesta and Alonso – The Spanish midfield maestros. Football fans on the European continent can confidently claim to be the home of the world’s strongest domestic leagues and most successful national teams.

European World Cup Winners

European (UEFA) national teams have won the World Cup a total of 12 times since the first tournament was played in 1930. South America has the next highest win ratio (9).

Italy and Germany are by far the most successful national teams in Europe. Both countries have won the title four times. France is next on two wins and England and Spain on one world title each.

As the 2022 World Cup fast approaches, we can look forward to more European players joining the list of Football All-Stars. Will the Qatar World Cup bring another trophy back for one of Europe’s national teams? Who knows? but you can be sure we’ll cover all the action.
